I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it

Who we are
My name is Amber Lee, Owner of Family Tale Counseling. This is a place for couples, individuals and families who are seeking mental healthcare and looking for some guidance on how to do so. It is our mission to give our clients back the power in their lives so that they feel capable of making positive changes toward their therapy goals. We believe that everyone has the ability to change and that therapy is just here to offer you the tools you need to get there.
how we can help
As a marriage and family therapist, I specialize in working with multiple people in the counseling setting. Working with more than one client at a time can take a certain type of approach to ensure that no one feels left out or outnumbered in the session. My objective is to ensure that the counseling space is a safe, judgement free zone that each individual can begin to become vulnerable enough to put their trust in me as their therapist. The systemic therapy approach is a more specialized technique that helps the therapist focus more on the family system and how it, as a whole, may be participating in maintaining the problem. Often the root of our problems can be traced through generations of trauma that we unknowingly perpetuate. When I work with a couple or a family, I see the issues as family problems and not one individual's problem. This method helps address how each person in the family could be contributing to the family's issues and how each person's role in the family is vital toward finding a solution.

What to Expect
If you are new to therapy, here's what you can expect from reaching out to us:
In the initial consultation I'll ask you to tell me briefly about the issues that are bringing you to counseling. This conversation typically lasts about 15 minutes and serves for you to ask me any questions about the counseling process and techniques I utilize. We can discuss fees, whether you need to request a sliding scale or not, how often and where we will meet, and possibly schedule our first therapy session. While this is a fairly short conversation, many clients are able to gauge the therapist's personality and determine if they would be a good match for them. You can give me a call directly or email me to schedule your consultation. I provide consultations free of charge to prospective clients so that we both can make an informed decision about creating our therapy relationship.
Words of encouragement
Stop and take a breath. Take notice of your body in this moment and what it's telling you. Some signs of stress in the body include a clenched jaw, tension in the neck and shoulders, balled fists, fast breathing, and an uneasy feeling in the gut to name a few. If you notice your body is stressed during this process of trying to advocate for your mental health, that is completely normal! Take a moment to calm your body, and recognize that this may be a stressful time for you and your family, but your experience is very normal for a lot of people. |
