low self-esteem
Self esteem is first established in our youth. When our parents would encourage us with words of affirmation, it grew our confidence and started us on a path toward a healthy self image. Maybe some of us need a bit more encouragement in our adult lives. If you struggle with thoughts of not being "good enough" or believing in your own self worth, you are not alone. It's normal to have self doubt at times throughout our lives. In the workplace we often refer to as "imposter syndrome" when you have thoughts that you aren't qualified to do your job, even though you are often succeeding in your role. These negative self thoughts are often misleading but, hard to fight off. In therapy, we can work to help you identify some of those cognitive distortions and replace those thoughts with accurate and healthy ones. Whatever your personal reasons for having low self-esteem are, we can address them in therapy and work toward growth and positive change.
