Parenting/Co-parenting
When we are faced with new or stressful situations, like parenting, that we haven't dealt with before, our brains will use past information that we have stored to tell us how to deal with our problems. That's why you may find yourself using some of the same parenting techniques that your parents used, even though you don't think they are very effective, or you always said you would do something different if given the chance. Until we learn a new way of doing things, we can't help but repeat the past. Learning new parenting techniques can help decrease family conflict, stress and anxiety surrounding parenthood, and the inability to agree on parenting decisions with your co-parent. The skills that you put into practice as a parent will help to shape and mold an entire generation after you in more ways than one. Gentle parenting simply means listening to your child's individual needs, and instructing them on how to be a healthy functioning adult in society.
